GEOGRAPHY OF SRI LANKA
Location : Between 5 to 10 degrees to North and 79 to 82 degrees East. The Palk straits about 35 Km ( 25 miles ) separates India and Sri Lanka.

Basically the Island is divided in to two , The central highlands and surrounding lowlands.

RATE AND VALIDITY

one Sn Lankan rupee is made up of 100 cents, Currency notes are in the denominations of Rs 10 . Rs 20. Rs 50 Rs 100,Rs 200, Rs500. Rs1000 Rs2000 and Rs 5000 Coins are in the following denominations

National Banking hours are from 0900 hrs to 1500 hrs on week days, may be different at Private Banks - ATM :
Teller machines are operated throughout the day Reputed credit and charge cards are widely accepted by shops in Sri Lanka. - What to wear :
Light cotton dresses/ clothes are most suited A wide —brimmed beach hat, sunglasses and comfortable shoes ( sport ) / Sandals In the higher hill-side country a pull-over is advisable.
Please note
Visitors should be decently clad when visiting any place of worship.
Beach wear is not suitable for Temples and Shrines. All visitors who are entering Buddhist & Hindu Temples are expected to remove footwear and hats. Shoulders and knees should also be covered.
Long trousers for gents are preferred by hotels during dinner.
Nude and topless sunbathing is prohibited.
PHOTOGRAPHY It is disrespectful to pose with your back to a Buddha statue I Hindu shrine or picture, when taking photos. it is always advisable to ask permission when taking pictures in places of worship and museums or of local people.
Many historical and holy places levy a small charge for cameras and video cameras
MEDICAL ATTENTION
Most towns have pharmacies. Should you require the services of a doctor, please contact the hotel reception and they can arrange for a doctor for a consultation.
TOUTS
Like in most tourist destinations you may be approached by touts or beach hawkers with offers to show you the sights or local attractions. A polite, but firm NO THANK YOU will suffice to ward off their attentions
